Ukulele Shopping

Posted: February 9, 2012 in Life in General

My 14yr-old son, who is soon to be 15, is a blues/rock guitar prodigy.  He is quite spectacular as he makes the guitar sing.  Currently, I would say his only shortcoming is his stage presence….he’s very statuesque as he rips through riffs.  It’s odd to see a person play rockin’ guitar and not move to the music as it flows through their hands and fingers.   I’m not sure if it’s a confidence thing, but he believes when guys throw their heads around, act like the guitar is a wicked python in their hands, that they look foolish.  I agree to some point, but I do understand showmanship and you have to demonstrate to your audience that you’re enjoying playing for them.  Feeling the music and letting your body move to it is natural, he just doesn’t agree with it.   He’s an uber-cool cat!

Watching him play “Sweet Child O’ Mine” while he stands there like Randy Travis just seems odd.  Of course, he gets all pissy when either I or his mom point it out to him.

Anywho, I’m going to get him a Ukulele for his upcoming birthday.  Not sure what kind to get, a Lanikai, Ibanez or something else.  Looking for recommendations.

Have to run, looking forward to Friday and Key West Lou’s Legal Hour!!  Link coming tomorrow!

In the meantime, let your mind take a trip…..

I'm in need of a chilled island 'bout you?

Later Cats!
